Six new Almshouses for independent living were opened on 29th February 2020 in Walsden. The homes have been built through a partnership between the Todmorden community, the Calderdale Community Land Trust (CCLT) and John Eastwood Homes. The land was gifted by Calderdale Council to CCLT for affordable housing and CCLT own four of the six bungalows with John Eastwood Homes owning the remaining two and managing all six. The local community raised a considerable amount of money and Homes England and the Quaker Housing Trust (QHT) both gave grants with QHT also giving an interest free loan enabling the project to complete. The Mayors of Calderdale and Todmorden both spoke at a well attended opening day which raised approaching £150 for the Todmorden Food Drop.
